I can see a need for having the ability to search for someone in a movie no matter what role they played.
I'll also be honest and say that I don't do a lot of advanced searching of Movielens all that much. Although, it is a nice option to have when I do need it.
From my point of view, having or not having this functionality wouldn't affect me all that much. Of course, I cannot speak for others on this matter.
