Good link! Epstein's the most interesting journalist writing about the movie industry today. Personally, I haven't been going to the multiplex much these last several months mainly because so many of the recent offerings seem so formulaic that I might as well wait till they show up on cable TV a few months down the road. And with the wide availability of DVDs and PPV, and excellent drama series on TV (The Wire, The Shield, Deadwood) why not stay home?
Slightly off-topic, but: One thing I really miss nowadays is the old BIG-screen theaters. I was lucky enough to see a freshly restored 70mm print of Lawrence of Arabia in a full-sized big-screen theater 15 years ago. Some movies really have to be seen in such a venue to do them justice.

I just read the article in the Guardian. Thanks, Polaris. Here's some of my reactions:
I WISH studios were still making quality films like Jaws. Note: Jaws was based in a very good novel. Maybe film executives and directors need to read some quality literature for awhile.
I still don't understand why Cinderella Man didn't make money. It really was a very good movie!
I would much rather go to a movie theater to see a good film than watch anything on TV or on DVD or VHS. Every weekend I check the paper for something to spend my money on and nothing interests me.

Yeah, Jaws was okay. Its factual inaccuracies really piss me off though.
I'd sure like to want to see something too.
