Oh well. It's a musical. It's exactly that. A musical with John Travolta in shy drag. That's the only reason I went to see this one. I'm happy he decided to underplay this character and just play the character. It proves he can act and not act out.

Michelle Pfeiffer is really miscast. She doesn't work as the "Queen of Mean" for me. I think Christopher Walken was miscast, too. He's just too weird for a musical and it's been waaaay too long since he's danced. And, there's not much more to say about it. I laughed frequently because of innuendo and backhanded remarks like Travolta's line, "I know something about men."

LOVED IT! Goodness, I don't even know why. I loved Travolta in it. I actually think Pfeiffer was a good choice! She played it for me! But men, I wouldn't think that you would like it as much as the girls.

Pfeiffer's speaking voice isn't up to the part and her singing voice is really weak compared to other cast members. I think she is too good an actress to take the part of a cartoonish, one-level character. Of course, I'm on her side. She is an over-40-actress who needs to redesign herself to keep working and she has been successful getting roles as mean or diabolical characters (she has one coming out in August). That's either good management or great connections. I'm wondering if the role was offered to anyone else before her?

This is definitely a chik flik. I can't imagine any straight male liking this one. If someone wants to prove me wrong, don't fight the feeling.

Yup, Pfeiffer's voice, obviously, wasn't as strong. And she was aware of it, it seemed to me. So, she used the scene more to show her attitude. She used a snobby better than you voice that showed her arrogance and how she is as a character. She kind of had an air about her, a poise, that just, ya know, sold her performance to me. (If you haven't seen it, you wouldn't envision what I am saying as strongly as those who have.) I think that that was genius, instead of pretending to sing and come off as a wannabe. But those are just my thoughts.
