What's the last thing you watched and what did you rate it?

Should be a simple discussion exercise...

I saw Ringu. I didn't find it that interesting, but it was okay. I rated it 3 out of 5 stars. Since I haven't seen the remake, I now know that I don't really intend to.

True Romance. 4.5 stars. Good and entertaining but not the best direction.

My Life Without Me (predicted 3.5, I gave it 3.5) The end product seemed improvised which means the script was secondary to the story and that sounds like an oxymoron. I like Mark Ruffalo because he's so bulkily fragile which is also an oxymoron and Amanda Plummer is always and never a surprise - contradictions rather than contrasts. The film was fragile and bell-like with lots of silent space. It's not something I would want to see again, though.

  The Machinist.
average rating was 3.5
I gave it 3.5

Good enjoyable movie, but not a memorable one I'd consider buying.

It was somewhat disappointing until the end where everything clicked.

Christian Bale is a fine actor who could become legendary.

Christian Bale is an amazing actor and even at his age is already legendary. Spielberg recognized his ability when he cast him in Empire of the Sun. His range is as wide as Leonardo diCaprio but Bale can play leading men as well as characters.

Godsend was not a godsend. My rating agreed with Movielens: 2.5. Some films aren't worth discussing.

Two films almost simultaneously: Angela (written and directed by Arthur Miller's daughter) which I gave 4 stars--terrific lighting, choice of lenses and young performers. Add to that the intriguing biographical overtones... Angela's mother is a Marilyn Monroe figure at the end of her mental ropes.

And: Show Me Love (aka Fucking Amal)--3.5 stars. I would have given it a 4 but it was all a fine prelude to what could have been a very interesting love story. Furthermore, if a prelude it must be, then the very last scene should have been cut, and the film ended on the previous scene with the two girls, having revealed their love to all, walking off confidently into their future life life together.
