Hammer horror
[archived]
I watched Quatermass and the Pit couple of days ago from TV and liked it worth 3.5 stars. That was the first time I heard about Hammer Horror-movies, even I had watched a lot of Christopher Lee's Hammer-movies without knowing the production company's name.

Is Hammer-productions well known in USA because it's hard to find their DVD's here in Finland? I went through their production and found out that it was enormous. Which movies could You recommend if I could lay hands on those Hammer movies.

By the way, go to "Suggest a tittle" feature and start suggesting Hammer-horror movies, those are mostly in "Pending suggestion" already.

I wouldn't say they are well known, probably only to movie buffs, def. check out the devil rides out I enjoyed that one a lot too, and there is one: The Revenge of Frankenstein which I enjoyed a lot, sometimes it's easier to find good hammer films by looking at the list of movies peter cushing and christopher lee were in, either together or seperately.

Living in the UK Hammer films are pretty accessible and I've rented quite a few. My favourite actor has to be Cushing - the guy brought class even to the weakest Hammer film. The earlier films were probably the strongest but some good films were produced during the sleazier and bloodier early 70s:

Twins of Evil
Vampire Circus
The Vampire Lovers
The Curse of Frankenstein
[noLink]Frankenstein[/noLink] Created Woman
Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
The Horror Of [noLink]Frankenstein[/noLink]
Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter
X The Unknown
[noLink]The Mummy[/noLink]
Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde

You could also check out the output of Amicus - another British Horror Company or these films which are similar in style/content:

Vampyres
The Abominable Dr. Phibes (AIP)
Witchfinder General (AIP)

Thank You! That helped a lot! I don't watch horror every week but every once in a while like to watch film or two from that genre.
